Jump Into Spring Without Home Damage

Spring is finally arriving! We don’t know about you, but we are welcoming this change with open arms. With the change in season, though, it is important to stay on top of any emerging issues that could cause damage to your home.
In addition to your regular spring-cleaning activities, it is important to prepare your home both inside and out so you can welcome the coming changes with ease. Check out our latest blog below for all the tips and tricks!
Clean It Out
The winter season can bring all kinds of weather to Harrisburg and our surrounding communities. Wind, rain and any sort of severe weather can introduce a bunch of debris into our gutter systems.
If your gutters are clogged, water from any spring showers that we get won’t be able to safely flow down and away from your home. Grab a ladder and get outside to clear those out on the next warmer day!
In addition, it is important that you take a walk around your property to inspect any of the vents around your home. Your furnace vents, dryer vents and even the vents in your attic can become clogged or compromised during the winter season.
If your appliances can’t vent properly, it could be dangerous to your health or become a fire hazard quickly. Remove any debris and give them all a good cleaning.
Change It Up
The change of seasons is a great time to swap out your air filter and give your utility room a cleaning. In addition to providing your home with cleaner air to breathe, having a clean HVAC system and surrounding area reduces your risk of a house fire. Aim to swap out your filters at least every season and keep your dust buildup to a minimum.
Now is also a great time to open up some windows and let the fresh air through. Winter can sometimes keep our homes locked up tight, which can lead to an increase in moisture levels. Mold loves moisture, so circulating your air can help reduce this problem as the seasons change.
Investigate Any Issues
Since we spend more time in our homes during the winter season, external troubles may not make themselves known until spring. It is important to get up on your roof and inspect it at the start of the season!
Catching any issues like broken or missing shingles or even discovering damage from a fallen tree can save you time and money in the long run.
It is also a good time to check out your chimney if you have a fireplace. Even though it won’t get much use in the spring and summer months, it is still important to ensure the chimney isn’t blocked or damaged in any way.
